In the art-song, a concentrated synthesis develops between the poetic text and the composer’s musical idea. When we as song interpreters decipher these intentions in the present moment, an exciting and moving statement can emerge.
Poems by Eichendorff, Goethe, Heine and many others no longer play an important part in our world. But when these poetic treasures are transformed into song and performed convincingly, their poetic content suddenly becomes astonishingly contemporary and emotionally vital.
